F1 2010 : plus réaliste et immersif que jamais !

Paul Waters, le chef de produit de F1 2010 s’est livré au site Gamereactor, et a donné de nouvelles informations sur le prochain jeu de Formule 1, qui sera disponible sur PC, PS3, et Xbox 360. Le jeu, d’après Paul Waters, se promet d’être bien plus réaliste et immersif ! Tous les détails dans la suite !

Deux axes de développement

Paul Waters explique que les développeurs ont suivis deux axes de développement pour créer le jeu :

Quand on a conçu le jeu, il y avait une devise dans nos esprits : “Etre le pilote, et la vie du pilote”. Les fonctions principales du jeu reflètent donc ces deux aspects : “être le pilote” correspond à tout ce que vous voyez sur le circuit, […] de magnifiques graphismes, une excellente maniabilité, le système météorologique, le système de retour en arrière… toutes les choses de ce genre.

De ce côté, le résultat devrait être au rendez-vous. Après un premier test réussi l’an passé sur Wii, Codemasters avait proposé un jeu correct graphiquement, et une excellente maniabilité sur la console de Nintendo. Développant maintenant sur des consoles proposant une puissance bien supérieure à la Wii, les graphismes devraient se montrer à la hauteur de ce que l’on a déjà sur les ces consoles.

”La vie du pilote” correspond à tout ce qui est en plus de la partie “conduite”. Pendant le développement du jeu, nous avons parlé avec beaucoup de fans et la majorité d’entre eux n’étaient pas intéressés uniquement par la conduite, mais aussi par ce qui se passe en dehors des pistes, et nous avons voulu apporter cet aspect à l’intérieur du jeu.[…] Dans F1 2010, vous sortez de votre voiture, et allez dans le garage, vous pouvez rencontrer vos ingénieurs, marcher à travers les paddocks et rencontrer les médias, etc… Nous voulons donner au joueur l’expérience de la vraie vie d’un pilote de Formule 1, dans tous ses aspects.

Il est vrai que les précédents jeux de F1 se focalisaient sur la conduite, et ne proposaient aucun contenu supplémentaire. Paul Waters le dit lui même : “Dans nos précédents jeux, vous terminiez la course, et bam, vous passiez à la prochaine course.’

Cette nouvelle voie dans le développement du jeu promet d’offrir une nouvelle expérience, qu’aucun jeu n’a encore donné.

Un réalisme poussé

Les équipes de Codemasters ont beaucoup travaillé pour offrir aux joueurs un jeu réaliste. Par exemple, pour le rendu des circuits et de leurs environnements, Paul Waters explique le programme appliqué :

Nous avons envoyé des gars du studio sur chaque circuit. Ils ont marché tout le long de la piste, et ont pris une photo tous les 5 mètres dans toutes les directions.[…] Ils ont ensuite envoyé ces photos à nos développeurs qui ont aussi utilisés des données archivées pour obtenir des informations précises au sujet des distances, hauteurs et pentes, le tout paraît donc très réaliste.

Sachant que les circuits font environ 4 ou 5 kilomètres, cela représente beaucoup de photos, et un travail extrêmement long, mais c’est le prix à payer pour offrir un jeu de qualité. On peut donc espérer des reproductions des circuits des plus réalistes ! Codesmasters a également consulté des anciens pilotes de F1 pour obtenir des détails que seuls eux peuvent connaître.F1_2010_WIP_4

Le studio de développement a également fait un travail sur le rendu sonore des monoplaces en se rendant dans les usines des quatre constructeurs de moteur, à savoir Ferrari, Cosworth, Mercedes et Renault. Ils ont ensuite enregistré les bruits des moteurs. Encore une fois, le réalisme sera au rendez-vous, puisque selon la voiture que vous conduirez, vous entendrez le son que la voiture émet en réalité.

Par contre, l’éventuelle possibilité de modifier les conditions météorologiques en fonction des conditions réelles sur le circuit : elle ne sera pas incluse. Mais Waters insiste sur le fait que les conditions météorologiques changeront selon des statistiques détaillées en fonction de la localisation du circuit.00030964_018

Concernant le second axe de développement, la vie du pilote, les informations délivrées par Paul Waters nous promettent vraiment un degré d’immersion jamais atteint.

Par exemple, l’interaction avec les médias pourra avoir des répercussions sur votre carrière, comme l’explique Paul Waters :

L’interaction avec les médias est très importante pour votre carrière. Par exemple : disons que vous avez eu un accident causé par Lewis Hamilton qui vous a percuté au dernier tour. Les médias vont donc vous interviewer à propos de l’incident, et vous pourriez dire que c’est la faute d’Hamilton. Mais si vous pensez que vous allez sûrement intégrer l’écurie McLaren l’année suivante, il vaudrait mieux faire attention à ce que vous dîtes.

Cet aspect est vraiment nouveau dans un jeu de course, et s’il est correctement utilisé, cela risque de vraiment changer l’expérience du jeu de Formule 1.

Paul Waters indique également que l’IA du jeu saura modifier la conduite des pilotes en fonction de vos réactions avec les médias. Par exemple, si vous dîtes à propos d’un pilote qui arrive souvent dans les dernière positions que c’est un mauvais pilote, cela ne va pas le faire arriver premier, et il ne s’améliorera pas d’un coup. Mais par contre, si vous faîtes la même chose avec un très bon pilote, il se peut qu’il n’apprécie pas vraiment votre remarque, et il fera tout pour aller aussi vite qu’il le peut lors de la prochaine course. Waters explique qu’ils ont intégré les caractéristiques de chaque pilote : Hamilton sera plutôt agressif, à l’inverse de Button qui adoptera une conduite plus douce, et Schumacher sera très difficile à dépasser. Et l’interaction avec chacun des pilotes changera leurs comportement.drivers

Si tous les éléments décrits par Paul Waters sont intégrés au jeu, et fonctionnent bien, il se pourrait que cet opus de jeu de Formule 1 marque un tournant dans le genre. En effet, le mode carrière risque d’être vraiment diffèrent des précédents jeux. Le mode multi-joueurs en ligne, qui proposera à 11 joueurs de s’opposer sur un circuit, ou de réaliser un championnat du monde entier, risque également d’être fort intéressant.
